Mofumahali oa Rosari PrimaryIt has been amazing to see how teachers in Lesotho have responded to the offer of professional development during COVID. Dolen and the British Council, South Africa  have run two rounds of CPD courses for teachers involved in the Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning Programme and we have received overwhelming feedback from the participants.

You made me to love my career I love to be a teacher I love my learners and I want to do my best for them to be the best too. You know the way you presented in every session of the training inspired me so so much. You did it with all passion. I am changed I feel renewed. Thank you so much for the tremendous impact you left with me.”

After such success, unbelievable commitment to learning through new technology and active engagement we decided to offer a series of sessions to 34 school Principals.

The courses covered the following themes:

Introduction to Core Skills

  • Building Leadership Capacity
  • Leading Teaching and Learning
  • Developing Inclusive Schools and Classrooms
  • Managing Change

It was so inspiring to read the comments from Principals taking part.

“The overall presentations were very inspiring and really provided us with much needed and relevant core skills for effective running of our schools. It has really helped us to reflect on multiple ways in which that we can improve our schools professionally.  Above all it has equipped us on how to keep our fellow teachers motivated and focused on their work of teaching for effective and reflective learning.”

Mazenod Primary School

“The course online was very great supportive to the leaders showing the way to be done to implement quality education.”  Principal from Thaba Tseka District

“The technological world is not yet friendly to some of us, but after this online course, I greatly got exposed to digital experiences, which in turn promoted our flexibility in dealing with 21st century world. The course gave us a chance to communicate with different leaders from different schools and indeed I enjoyed that interaction because we shared ideas on how we differently run our  different schools, and how we resolve challenges we come across on day to day basis on running of the schools” Principal from Mohales Hoek District

Students improving environment

“They indeed make us better teachers, better leaders. Our attitudes, perceptions have changed. We’re critical thinkers, no more the same, totally different and approach things differently.” Principal from Maseru District

“The overall online courses were fantastic, inspiring, full of useful videos, pictures and influential. I gained a lot on implementing changes, motivating both teachers and learners. I was very much impressed by the Building Leadership capacity course. We have started reviewing our vision, disability policy, teachers codes of conduct, so teaching and learning can improve.” Principal from Leribe

From improving the school environment to developing team work and problem solving and student leadership, exciting plans are being put into action by the Principals and their staff, following these courses.

Dolen has worked with teachers in Lesotho and Wales for over 35 years, but the last 18 months during COVID have affected teachers and learners in both countries. It is through exciting programmes and collaborations like this we can continue to work remotely with success. I am so proud to be part of this.

Thanks of course to the excellent British Council facilitators for the professional and accessible courses. We look forward to further opportunities in 2022.
