Paul Myres

Paul Myres has been a long-standing member of our Board and our Chairperson for 5 years. He stepped down from his role in November 2023 and handed the baton to Advocate Joanna Jonas and Setempe Phoka as Vice-chair. Paul has made many visits to Lesotho. He is a retired GP. He was chair of Royal College of GPs Wales and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Wales during which time he established a link with Family Medicine Training Programme in Leribe. He has served on the partnership board for Hub Cymru Africa. He is Chair of Starlight Oasis of Hope Hospice , a charity aiming to improve access to palliative care in Lesotho.

Michael German

Lord (Michael) German is a Member of the House of Lords, and a former Deputy First Minister and Party leader in the then National Assembly.  Lord German has been a frequent visitor to Lesotho and has engaged with the Parliament of Lesotho in strengthening their democratic functioning.  He helped broker the signing of the partnership protocol between the Welsh Government and the Government of Lesotho, and was deeply involved in the State visit of H M King Letsie to Wales.

Before a full-time career in politics, he was originally a High School teacher in Cardiff, and then headed the European Unit of the WJEC.  He served as a City Councillor in Cardiff for 12 years.

In the House of Lords he takes an active interest in international development matters, including the Kingdom of Lesotho.   He is currently a Commissioner of the House of Lords and Chair of the Parliament Choir.
