Education professionals from Lesotho, South Africa and Wales joined forces to share stories of how an emphasis on well-being is shaping learners’ lives in Lesotho.
The conference, organised by Dolen Cymru Lesotho, learned about supporting transition at all levels, how the Tree of Life toolkit can help learners and adults alike and the importance of listening to the learner voice.
Participants learned of the importance of encouraging confident learners who are able to speak up in different situations.
Examples of this were shared from Mount Royal Primary School in Leribe where they have a whole day devoted to well-being activities. This includes all learners using sign language for the day. Other examples were from Thabana Tso’oana School where pupils submitted poetry for our monthly newsletter exploring what being a hero means to them.
A group of teachers in Matsieng, linked to St Davids, were invited to join the conference with the local organisation Hub Morija. They have been so inspired they will meet bi-monthly to have a place where teachers can discuss issues which were covered during the conferences. They really enjoy them and hope to recruit more teachers to attend.
