COVID Response Health
Using funding from Wales and Africa’s Emergency COVID response and Awyr Las (North Wales NHS charity), Dolen was able to support this COVID response initiative in Lesotho.
This project supported doctors in Lesotho’s only post-graduate medical training programme. It provided e-mental health support from the psychologist-led Staff Wellbeing and Support Services from Betsi Cadwaladr UHB, as well as distance learning. It also provided much needed PPE for the doctors and their health facilities.

Red Cross Thaba Tseka Sewing Club
COVID Response – Masks
This project enables vulnerable members of the Thaba Tseka community to access local services such as attending health centres/hospital and use public transport safely by provided free re-usable face masks made by a local sewing club. Experienced members of the Thaba Tseka Red Cross club took on trainees to learn new skills and produce the masks
The local committee distributed the masks where needed most and delivered guidance on how to look after the masks and give more general information on good hygiene practice to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

COVID Response-Education
Learners in Lesotho have been badly affected by the COVID pandemic. This project aims to fill the learning gaps by developing the digital skills of teachers and the use of radio broadcasts for learners and their families in hard-to-reach rural communities.
Learners and parents are encouraged to promote active home learning by listening to specially commissioned radio broadcasts based on Jolly Phonics. These programmes will be used in future as a tool for trainee teachers and other teachers across Lesotho.
Using local translations of WHO/UNICEF’s ‘My Hero is You’ and ‘Action for Heroes’ teachers give well-being support to learners after sharing good practice at an online Well-being Conference hosted by Dolen.
Continued radio lessons even as schools open will provide opportunities for learners to ‘catch up’ and reinforce learning at home, as well as encouraging re-enrolment in school.
