Physical: Lesotho’s geographical formation is characterized by deep valleys and high mountains, with the Maluti and Drakensberg Mountain Ranges running from south west to north east. It is the only country in the world to have all its territory located more than 1,000 metres above sea level – the lowest point is 1,388 metres and this rises to almost 3,500 metres in the Maluti mountain range near the north-eastern border. More than 80% of the country is 1,800 meters above sea level.
Climate: Most of the African countries are known for their hot and sultry climatic condition. But Lesotho differs in this matter. In summer the weather is warm but not terribly hot. In winter the temperature remains cool and often drops to below zero degree Celsius which can often mean snow!
Flora and Fauna: Among the various types of plants found in Lesotho, the alpine flora is the most exciting ones. The varieties include both the left and right handed spirals. Maluti Alpine Park protects the rare species of plants.
The entire mountain ranges are ruled by Rhebok and Mountain Reedbuck. Eland can be sighted that give you a breath taking experience. Among the other exciting animals there are mongooses, meerkats, and rock hyraxes. Baboons and jackals are also found in Lesotho.
